BENGALURU, 26 APRIL

Around 8,500 people from Bengaluru could cast their votes, thanks to a helpline that addressed their concerns regarding voting, EPIC cards and polling booths.

The helpline, which was running on Thursday and Friday, was set up by a collective of civil society groups to help people with the last-minute glitches regarding voting.

The helpline received around 10,000 calls and around 20 per cent of them were related to names being missed in the polling booth list though they have voted in the previous Assembly elections.

Anucheth Kumar, an IT employee from the City, told Salar News, “I have visited Padmanabhanagar polling station and when I showed my voter ID, my name was not there. When I told them that I voted in Assembly elections, they cited technical glitches for it.”

The voter helpline was manned by a team of 40 people from NGOs in the City. “Our aim was only to increase the voter turnout and we are not affiliated to any political party,” said Tousif Massod, a volunteer of the helpline.

Election Commission’s hotline C-VIGIL received 4,118 calls regarding the complaints from voters and they were able to solve 3,978 of them. —Salar News
