Ghee Podi Idlis, Davangere Special Butter Dose, Akki Roti,
Ragi Roti, Tatte Idli and Button Idli; this is not a menu of a popular
restaurant in City but the menu for the breakfast that will be provided to the
MLAs attending the upcoming Assembly Session.
For the first time in history, the State Assembly secretariat
is providing a complimentary breakfast to all legislators throughout the
Assembly session at Vidhana Soudha from 12 to 23 February. This unprecedented
move is aimed at encouraging active engagement among Assembly members of both
the Houses.
Ten restaurants have been roped in to provide sumptuous
breakfast to the lawmakers. Ghee Thatte Idli, Ghee Podi Masala Dosa and Open
Butter Masala from Rameshwaram Café; varieties of rotis from Halli Mane,
Malleshwaram; and Benne Dose from Davangere Benne Dose, Mahalakshmi Layout,
will be served piping hot to the MLAs and MLCs. Other restaurants including
South Ruchi, IDC, Paakashala, JP Cordial and Sona Caterers, have also been
given the contract to provide the breakfast. The breakfast will be served to around
300 people, including 224 MLAs and 75 MLCs.
Speaking to Salar News, Speaker UT Khader said, “More than
50 per cent of legislators do not have a residence in Bengaluru and they stay
at legislative homes in Bengaluru. If the breakfast is served late there, the
legislators will not make it to the Assembly on time.”
“To avoid latecomers and to start the session on time, we
have decided to serve breakfast in Vidhana Soudha. We called the Bruhat
Bengaluru Hoteliers Association (BBHA) for a meeting and they gave us a list of
restaurants and we settled for nine restaurants,” Khader said.
The restaurants are instructed to provide fresh and hot
breakfast daily, including sweets, coffee and tea to all the legislators.
BBHA President PC Rao said the government collaborated with
the Hoteliers Association to provide the breakfast. “Various food items,
including the hotel’s special for the day, will be served to the legislators.
We thank the Speaker for the opportunity given to us,” Rao said.
The restaurants are given a hall on the premises of Vidhana
Soudha and are instructed to serve the MLAs in their seats, Rao said.
