BENGALURU, 25 APRIL

Residents can anticipate ongoing pre-monsoon showers, along with thunderstorms and lightning, from 28-30 April, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). While the rainfall will not be widespread, it is expected to be scattered and moderate, frequently accompanied by gusty winds and localised thunderstorms.

In a statement to reporters on Friday, CS Patil, Director of the IMD’s Bengaluru regional centre, explained that a trough has formed at approximately 0.9 km altitude over the state's interior, leading to a partly cloudy atmosphere and evening or night rainfall in numerous locations.

Since early April, Karnataka has experienced above-average pre-monsoon rainfall, providing a much-needed boost to agricultural activities. Intermittent summer showers have been reported throughout various districts, particularly in the coastal, Malnad, and northern and southern interior regions.

Patil indicated that rainfall is likely to continue in these areas until the end of April, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40 to 50 km/h in some locations. The IMD has advised the public to exercise caution and take necessary precautions, particularly during thunderstorms.
