City seminar on fake news and social justice held
The event drew media professionals, journalism students, and esteemed dignitaries, addressing the rising concern of fake news and its implications on social justice.

Karnataka Media Academy, in collaboration with the
Department of Information and Publicity, organised a seminar titled
‘Misinformation: How it Affects Social Justice’ at the Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka
Nidhi, Sheshadripuram, on Tuesday. The event drew media professionals,
journalism students, and esteemed dignitaries, addressing the rising concern of
fake news and its implications on social justice.
The seminar was inaugurated by Health Minister Dinesh
Gundu Rao, who emphasised the dangers of organised misinformation in today’s
world. “There is an organised spread of misinformation in the present scenario.
Earlier, misinformation was used for propaganda, but now it plays with people's
minds, becoming more dangerous and impacting society.” he stated.
Karnataka Media Academy Chairperson Ayesha Khanum
expressed her gratitude for the enthusiasm shown by the media fraternity and
students alike. Prof. BK Ravi, Chancellor of Koppal University, underscored the
importance of truth in journalism. "Society respects journalists because
they expect truth from them. Staying on the path of truth is crucial for
maintaining this trust," he said.
A panel discussion on the topic followed, moderated by
Bansy Kalappa, Political Editor of the New Indian Express. The panel included
veteran journalists such as Dinesh Amin Matto, former advisor to the Chief
Minister, M Siddaraju, former Chairman of the Karnataka Media Academy, Asha
Krishnaswamy, and Ravindra Bhat Ainakayee, Editor of Prajavani. -Salar News
