Bengaluru, 20 April
A 47-year-old retired Army man was allegedly strangled to death by his teenage
son in the early hours of Sunday, following repeated clashes over discipline.
The incident occurred in Vannarpet, under the Viveknagar police limits.
The deceased, Bolu Arab Islam, was a former Army serviceman
known for his strict lifestyle. His son, Sameer, 19, a first-year BCom student,
was reportedly frustrated by his father’s constant scoldings, particularly
about his late returns and spending habits.
Police said the two often argued over Sameer’s behaviour,
and on Saturday night, another heated exchange erupted. Around 2am Sunday, in a
fit of rage, Sameer allegedly strangled his sleeping father. He later tried to
mislead police, claiming a group of unidentified men had attacked Bolu.
However, CCTV footage from the area showed no sign of
intruders. Upon interrogation, Sameer allegedly confessed to the crime. Police
are now investigating whether his mother was also involved or complicit in the
incident.
Neighbours described Bolu as a strict but caring man who hoped his son would follow in his footsteps and join the armed forces. A murder case has been registered at Viveknagar police station.
