BENGALURU, 13 JUNE

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) launched its test trials for its first driverless metro prototype on Thursday.

The trail began at the Namma Metro’s 19-kilometre yellow line which connects from RV Road to Bommasandra. According to BMRCL, the trials for its first driverless train will have various tests that are to happen on main lines such as traction break test which is to evaluate the vehicle’s traction performance.

Full loaded sand bang test to ensure structural stability of the train, signalling test and oscillation trial to check stability, moving behaviour and speed of the train from research design and standard organisation. The tests were done in the presence of a loco-pilot.

Initially the launch was planned for last year, which was then postponed to February-March 2024. In another development Bengaluru’s first ever double-decker flyover will open alongside the Yellow line of Namma Metro. The vehicles will be allowed only to a portion of the flyover, after a final inspection by authorities on 15 June. —PTI
