BENGALURU, 11 JUNE
In a major relief to property and
home owners in Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced a 'One
Time Settlement' (OTS) window till 31 July for paying outstanding property tax.
The OTS scheme offers a 50 per cent concession on penalties and a 100 per cent
concession on interest payments.
“BBMP had not actively pursued
property tax payments due to the recent elections. I encourage everyone to take
advantage of the OTS to clear their outstanding payments,” Shivakumar said at
Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday.
The property tax is the primary
source of revenue for BBMP. About 4 lakh citizens have not paid their property
tax, totalling the dues to around Rs 1,000 crore. To tackle this issue,
Shivakumar announced the OTS scheme. “There are 20 lakh properties in the tax
bracket, but many are still outside. Those who pay their taxes and submit proof
within 90 days will receive a property tax clearance slip. Those who don’t will
be considered defaulters starting 1 August," Shivakumar said.
Citizens can use the online portal
at https://bbmptax.karnataka.gov.in to pay the property tax. Property tax
arrears have been reduced as per the OTS on the portal, but they will revert to
normal rates from 1 August, 2024. For any clarifications, the public can
contact Sahaya Helpline at 1533 or visit your local ARO Offices.
Property digitisation to be over in
3 months
The Deputy Chief Minister said the
digitising of 20 lakh properties in the City is under process. “Around 8 lakh
properties have been digitised, and the remaining will be completed in the next
three months. Once the process is finished, digital records will be delivered
to property owners." —Salar News
