BENGALURU, 9 JAN
Karnataka Energy Minister KJ George
announced that the State anticipates a peak power consumption of 19,000
megawatts during the forthcoming summer months. In a proactive approach, the
minister assured citizens that the State is well-prepared for the seasonal
surge in demand, particularly as power production typically declines.
During a review meeting at the
Doddaballapura Deputy Commissioner's office, attended by district
representatives, BESCOM, and KPTCL officials, George instructed the energy
department to implement strategic measures to prevent any disruptions in
electricity supply. He stated the goal is to avoid any load-shedding scenarios
this summer, especially as last year's peak demand reached approximately 17,000
MW, which was successfully managed by the energy department.
The minister highlighted that a
projected increase in power demand necessitates the sourcing of electricity
from neighbouring states, with an emphasis on securing favourable agreements
for power exchanges. In light of the high costs associated with short-term
electricity procurement, he underscored the need for establishing long-term
contracts at lower rates, ensuring cost-effective energy solutions.
George's directives aim to ensure
that consumers receive a reliable electricity supply throughout the peak summer
months, as the state gears up for the anticipated surge in energy demand. -PTI
