Karnataka road accidents claim 8 lives in 24 hours

Three were killed and seven others, including a child, sustained severe injuries when the bus they were travelling in crashed to a parked truck.

At least eight people were killed and several others critically injured in road accidents across the State on Saturday morning. The accidents occurred in Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Karwar, and Yadgir, once again highlighting the lack of safety on the State’s national highways.

KARWAR: 3 DEAD AS BUS CRASHES INTO PARKED LORRY

Three passengers were killed and seven others, including a child, sustained severe injuries when the bus they were travelling in crashed to a parked truck Mavalli Cross in Yellapur taluk of the district. The impact crushed a large portion of the bus.

The accident occurred while the bus was overtaking a vehicle on the Yellapur–Ankola and crashed into the parked lorry in the dark.  Reports suggest that the lorry’s hazard lights or indicators were not switched on, leading to the collision.  However, police also suspected the accident was caused by negligence from the bus driver, Yamanappa Magi.

The deceased and injured were from Bagalkot district and were said to be travelling to Goa for job purposes.

NELAMANGALA: KSRTC BUS COLLIDES WITH SHEEP LORRY

On National Highway 48 near Gundenahalli village, a KSRTC bus collided head-on with a lorry carrying sheep. Two people inside the lorry died on the spot. The impact severely damaged a section of the bus. A case has been registered at Nelamangala Traffic Police Station.

YADGIR: CAR AND TANKER COLLISION CLAIMS 2 LIVES

In the early hours of Saturday, on National Highway 150 near Neelahalli Cross in Yadgir taluk, a car collided with a tanker lorry. Two passengers in the car died on the spot.

DEVANAHALLI: 1 DEAD AS CAR RAMS INTO CANTER

Near Gokare on the Hosakote–Dabaspet National Highway, a car transporting tomatoes from Devanahalli to Kolar rammed into the rear of a Canter from Tamil Nadu. One passenger in the Bolero died and the driver sustained minor injuries.
