A large number of students in the State have urged the government to implement the New Education Policy (NEP) and reject the State Education Policy (SEP).

Addressing media at the press club in the City, Mallepuram G Venkatesh, the convener of People's Forum for Karnataka Education in Bengaluru, said, “In the past year, we conducted campaigns across the State, visiting around 2,630 schools and colleges. We gathered opinions from around 86,600 teachers and 2,88,178 students in our research paper. Additionally, we collected opinions from 26,980 parents and others who have signed our research paper. In total, 10,16,000 people across the State are urging the continuation of NEP-2020.”

“Campaigns organised by educationists reached all districts, creating widespread public awareness. A rally supporting NEP-2020 saw participation from teachers, students, and the general public, demonstrating the success of these awareness programs.” he added.

Former vice-chancellor of Bangalore University, Venugopal KR, said, “The four-year undergraduate degree is up to the student's choice. NEP-2020 has made it clear that students who want to engage in research or intensively prepare themselves for employment, enrol in foreign or Indian universities for higher studies can opt for this honours degree. Elsewhere, the policy clearly states that students can opt for a regular three-year degree. We are not restricting the students. It depends on them to go for a 3-year degree course or a four-year course.”

He further highlighted, “As NEP provides education through technology, yearly one exam burdens the students; hence NEP keeps it based on assessment. NEP is planned to implement artificial intelligence for providing education, which is an advanced one. Opting for NEP would be a boon for this State.” -Salar News
