TUMAKURU, 22 AUG

A Class 4 student from a government school in Beladhara village, Koratagere taluk, has drawn Statewide attention after refusing to attend classes until a compound wall is built around the school playground.

Her bold protest, sparked by concerns over safety and hygiene, went viral on social media, prompting a visit from Senior Civil Judge and Tumakuru District Legal Services Authority Member Secretary, Noorunnisa. Despite efforts to persuade her, the young girl firmly declared: “I will return to school only when a compound wall is built around the playground.”

The student said the open grounds are frequently misused by visitors to a nearby marriage hall, who litter the area and create a disruptive and unhygienic environment.

Garbage, dust, and noise make it difficult for students to focus during lessons and exams.

She further highlighted that the playground is often used as a parking lot, posing safety risks and making it unfit for recreation or study.

Moved by her determination, Judge Noorunnisa instructed the head of the Zilla Panchayat to take immediate action.

She has also written to the State Legal Services Authority to support the student’s demand.

The young protestors’ stand has been widely applauded online as a rare and inspiring call for better infrastructure in rural schools.
