Bengaluru, 17 Feb

Bengaluru police saved the day after a four-year-old boy was accidentally left asleep inside a cab in Hennur on Friday night and reunited with his family within an hour.

The incident occurred on 14 February when the couple returned from a trip to their apartment in Ponnappa Layout under Hennur police limits.

Unaware that their child was still asleep in the back seat, they exited the taxi.

On realising the vehicle had driven away with the boy inside, they immediately alerted the ‘112’ emergency helpline.

Hennur police swung into action, relaying details to ASI Manjappa Koppal and Head Constable Satish. By then, the driver had completed two additional trips, unaware the child was in the vehicle.

After being contacted, the driver checked and found the boy, Jian, sleeping safely. Police instructed him not to wake the child and tracked the cab’s live location while directing him back. Officers reached the apartment within minutes, and the child was safely handed over.

The incident has gone viral, drawing praise for the police response and criticism of the parents.

Police later counselled the couple to exercise greater caution.
