The Karnataka Media Academy on Friday announced the names of the recipients of its annual and endowment awards for the year 2025, including journalists and writers from across the state. Salar Digital News photographer Mohammed Asad was among the 30 journalists who were honoured.

 

With a career spanning over four decades, Asad has captured history with his camera - from the 1990 crash of Indian Airlines Flight 605 that killed 146, 1992 Bengaluru riots following Babri Masjid demolition, to the recent anti-encroachment drives in Bengaluru’s Kogilu and Thanisandra.

 

This year’s awards were conferred on 30 journalists chosen for their exemplary works from the print, electronic and digital media. Besides, 10 writers have also been selected for endowment awards.

 

An organisation's press release stated that the Special Award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh and a citation plaque. The endowment awards include a cash award of Rs 50, 000 besides a citation and plaque.

 

Among those conferred with the prestigious awards are Udayavani Chamarajanagar district reporter Banashankar Aradhya. The Special Award for the year 2025 has gone to Sarita Rai.

 

The names of Karnataka Media Academy award recipients include D Kumaraswamy, Banashankar Aradhya, Hema Venkat, Manjunath Y L, Ananth Nadig, Gururaj Waman-rao Jamkhandi, MM Patil, L Vivekananda, R P Bharatraj Singh, Prof Poornaananda, Mohammed Asad, Tungarenuka, Mohiuddin Pasha, Rudrappa Asangi, Satish Acharya, Somashekar Padukere, Gulmar Mirza, Ganesh Hegde Itagi, Aarti HN, K Lakshmana, Uma Ananth, Manjunath Mahalingapur, Manjunath T, Mal-likarjun Wadi, Pratima Nandakumar, Amit Upadhye, Prabhu Swamy Natekar, Siddegowda N, Sanjeev Kamble and Neelakantha K R.

 

The names of Endowment awards and their recipients are Andolana Endowment Award: Suvarna Giri newspaper, Koppal Abhimani Endowment Award: Shivu of Hunsur, VijayavaniMysuru Diganta Endowment Award: Santosh E Chingudi of Belagavi, Prajavani Abhimanyu Endowment Award: Chandrashekar Bennur of Sindhanur, Vijaya Karnataka Praja Sandesha Endowment Award: Nagaraju Y, Koppal, TV5 Dr BR Ambedkar Mookanayaka Endowment Award: Dr A Narayana Aragini Endowment Award: Chetan Nadiger, cinema journalist, Bengaluru Basavaraj Doddamani Agricultural Journalism Award: Siddesh Tagatoor, Bengaluru CV Rajagopal Endowment Award: Prahlad Kulali, senior journalist KUWJ endowment Award: K Anand Shetty.
