Bengaluru, 15 Dec

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that samples from various brands, including the brand Eggos, have been sent for analysis as he sought to allay fears that egg brands were using a ‘genotoxic substances’ that may cause cancer.

The State government has already collected samples for testing, Rao said on Monday, assuring the public that all concerns would be scientifically verified.

“There is information that a specific egg brand is using antibiotics. I have instructed my officers to obtain clear information about the content of the eggs,” Rao said.

Rao emphasised that eggs are generally good for health and urged citizens not to panic. “Last year, 125 egg samples were tested across the state; 124 were found safe, and only one had an issue,” he added. He also said officials are monitoring the supply chain closely to ensure no compromised eggs reach consumers. The government will wait for laboratory results and share the findings once available, ensuring transparency and public safety.
