Davanagere case exposes police misconduct as two officers face action for allegedly robbing a goldmaker

The Karnataka Home Department has taken strong action against two
Sub-Inspectors who allegedly robbed a goldsmith at gunpoint. One of the
Sub-Inspector has been dismissed while the other has been suspended pending
departmental inquiry. Malappa Yallappa Chippalakatti, the PSI of Hamsabhavi
Police Station in Byadagi taluk in Haveri district, identified as the prime
accused, has been dismissed with effect from 24 November, as he was a
probationer.
The other accused, Praveenkumar, a PSI attached to the Sagar
Town Police Station in Shivamogga district, has been suspended.
The East Zone Inspector General of Police, Dr BR
Ravikantegowda, said the duo, along with three others, allegedly robbed gold
ornament manufacturer Vishwanath Arkasali from Karwar in the early hours of 24
November. The gang brandished a toy gun, threatened him, and robbed 78.15 grams
of gold, including a gold biscuit and jewellery. The case was registered at KTJ
Nagar Police Station in Davanagere.
