Illegal mining: Ex-IAS Rao made recovery commissioner

Retired IAS officer GV Krishna Rao was appointed Karnataka’s Recovery Commissioner to seize and forfeit properties from illegal mining under the 2025 Act.

The State government has appointed retired IAS officer GV Krishna Rao, former Additional Chief Secretary, as Recovery Commissioner to seize and forfeit properties derived from illegal mining activities, a government order said.


The appointment was made under The Karnataka Appointment of Recovery Commissioners for Seizure and Confiscation of Property Arising from Illegal Mining and Proceeds of Crime Act, 2025, it added.


According to a notification issued by the Commerce and Industries Department (Mines), the Act empowers the state to appoint a Recovery Commissioner of not below Additional Chief Secretary rank, serving or retired, to oversee confiscation and attachment of properties obtained through illegal mining and related crimes.


In a separate order, the government fixed Rao’s pay and service terms. He will receive a monthly salary of Rs 2,95,256, including Rs 1,04,006 as basic pay, along with dearness and house rent allowances calculated on his last drawn pay of Rs 2,25,000.
