A man and three members of his family have
been booked under the Dowry Prohibition Act and other sections of the IPC for
allegedly harassing his wife, threatening to release her private videos, and
coercing her into selling her gold ornaments, police said on Friday.
According to a complaint filed at
Puttenahalli police station, the 35-year-old woman was engaged to Syed Inam Ul
Haq in September 2024 and married him in December the same year as per Muslim
customs. She alleged that at the time of marriage, 340 grams of gold ornaments
and a two-wheeler were given as dowry.
Soon after marriage, she claimed, Haq
revealed he was already married and pressured her into physical relations with
his associates abroad. When she refused, he allegedly threatened to release
intimate photos and videos secretly recorded without her consent. She also
alleged physical assaults in public and at her parental home, and harassment by
her in-laws.
Police registered a case on September 30
under multiple IPC sections and the Dowry Prohibition Act. An investigation is
underway.
