The Karnataka High Court directed that no coercive action should be taken against BJP leader MP Renukacharya, who had been booked for making an allegedly inflammatory speech during Ganesha Chaturti. Orally, the court remarked that festivals are being used politically by the State government.

The former MLA had been booked for asking youth in Davangere to defy the district administration's orders against DJ music during idol immersion. An FIR was lodged against him in this regard.

Renukacharya then moved the High Court against the FIR. The court on Wednesday, however, granted him an interim stay against coercive action.

“Respondents are directed not to initiate any coercive steps against the petitioner. The petitioner shall co-operate with the investigation,” the court ordered.

Orally, the court rapped the State government.

“One thing…festivals are being used for political reasons by the State government also, that is being noticed. This should not be done,” the court remarked.
