MYSURU, 23 JULY

Disagreement over serving eggs in midday meals has disrupted classes at Halakere Higher and Primary Government School in Mandya taluk. Of the 120 students enrolled, 80 object to eating eggs, while 40 support it.

The controversy escalated after some parents accused the school of hurting religious sentiments by distributing eggs despite their objections. They pointed out that the Veerabhadreshwara temple stands directly behind the school and requested bananas as an alternative. However, the school continued to serve eggs.

In protest, several parents requested Transfer Certificates for their children, and a few students stopped attending school. Some parents suggested the school send eggs home instead of serving them on campus.
