CM pays tribute to actress Saroja Devi in Mandya

BENGALURU, 15 JULY

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah paid homage to legendary actress B Saroja Devi, who passed away due to age-related illness at her Bengaluru residence at the age of 87. The Chief Minister described her death as a significant loss to the Indian film industry. Her last rites were scheduled to take place in her native village Dhashavara in Mandya district.

Siddaramaiah praised Saroja Devi for her remarkable 70-year career, highlighting her versatility as an actress in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films. The Chief Minister noted that her embodiment of various characters alongside notable actors like MG Ramachandran and NT Rama Rao left an indelible mark on cinema.

Expressing condolences on behalf of the State government, Siddaramaiah announced that state honours would be awarded at her cremation. The Chief Minister recalled warm personal memories with Saroja Devi and acknowledged her contributions to the growth of the Kannada film industry, underscoring her historical and mythological roles. A multitude of tributes poured in from political leaders and industry figures, recognising her lasting legacy and impact on Indian cinema.
