Bengaluru, 8 July
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has publicly
criticised the Congress-led State government, highlighting the dire financial
state affecting contractors in the region. In a post on X' Surya described the
situation as "deplorable," revealing that contractors are not only enduring
harassment for "cut money" but are also experiencing significant
delays in payments, some lasting years, rendering their projects financially
unviable. He noted that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is in its
"worst state," with contractors reluctant to undertake any work,
including basic maintenance like filling potholes.
In response to these issues, municipal
employees from various corporations across the State staged a symbolic protest
at Freedom Park in the City. Employees from the BBMP and ten other municipal
corporations participated in the strike, voicing demands such as the withdrawal
of the Log safe attendance system, the filling of 6,000 vacant positions, and
the cessation of suspensions for minor infractions.
Protesters emphasised their commitment to
providing essential services and called for improved benefits and job security
from the State government.
