A family was swept away by strong currents while taking a holy dip in the Bhima River in Ganagapur, Kalaburagi, resulting in the death of minor. The incident occurred on Monday at around 3.30pm.

Seventeen-year-old Lakshmikant Parashurama, from Hattagala village Aland Taluk, had come with his family to visit the Dattatreya Swamy temple in Ganagapur, Afzalpur taluk. Along with his family members, he entered the river for a holy dip. 

Due to the strong current, they were swept away. Locals managed to rescue three of the family but were unable to save Lakshmikant.

“While bathing, my son went slightly deeper into the river and got caught in a whirlpool,” Raju Parashurama said. “By the time I reached to hold him, he had already drowned. Since then, local fishermen and the fire department have been searching, on the Tuesday at noon my son’s body was found floating near the Papnashi area of the Bhima river.
