MYSURU, 12 JUNE
Hundreds of members of the University of Mysore Researchers’ Association and the Dalit Students’ Federation on Thursday staged a protest against the vice chancellor and registrar at Clock Tower Circle on the Manasagangothri campus for removing the banners of Dr BR Ambedkar Jayanthi celebrations.
The association members had installed the banners in front of the Department of Collegiate Education on the campus. Varsity staff reportedly removed the banners after they were damaged by some miscreants.
The agitating students also prevented the entry of all private vehicles to the campus, excluding those of the students. Tension prevailed in the campus following the protests with the deployment of tight police security.
The association members have also filed a complaint with Jayalakshmipuram police, leading to the registration of an FIR.
The protesters demanded that the varsity suspend the staff responsible for this incident and appealed to police to arrest the miscreants who damaged the banners. They raised slogans against the vice chancellor, registrar and administrative officer of Department of Collegiate Education.
They threatened to intensify their stir and also accused the officials of maintaining an anti-Dalit stance and ignoring their demands.
