BENGALURU, 12 JUNE


Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered interim release of RCB Marketing head Nikhil Sosale and there others arrested in connection with the 4 June stampede that killed 11 people.

Others who got relief from the High Court are Sunil Mathew, Kiran Kumar S and Shamant NP Mavinakere of the event organising company DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, who were also arrested on 6 June.

The Court asked the arrested persons to surrender their passports.

The stampede occurred outside the Chinnaswamy stadium during an event organised to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL title win.

The case came up for hearing before Justice SR Krishna Kumar, who had reserved the verdict on interim plea by Sosale after hearing arguments on 11 June. 

Meanwhile, the High Court on Thursday received all relevant documents it had demanded in connection with the case. The documents in Kannada were submitted in a sealed envelope before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V Kameshwar Rao and Justice CM Joshi.

Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty assured the bench that an English translation would be provided in two days. The matter has been posted for further hearing on 17 June.


ASHOKA SEEKS NHRC PROBE


Leader of Opposition R Ashoka has sought the urgent intervention of National Human Right Commission (NHRC) into the probe into the stampede.

He urged the Commission to launch a comprehensive investigation into the roles and responsibilities of all government officials, agencies, and private entities involved in organising the event.
