The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka, on Tuesday strongly condemned what it called "defamatory and communal" remarks by BJP MLC N Ravikumar against Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Dr Fauzia Tarannum, describing his comments as a direct attack on constitutional values and an accomplished woman officer.
Tashkeela Khanum, State secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said, "Targeting a dedicated IAS officer –honoured with a Presidential award – with baseless and humiliating remarks is disgraceful. This kind of behaviour reflects a deep-rooted prejudice and a dangerous trend of communal polarisation."
Khanum also pointed to other recent instances of hate speech targeting Muslim women, including a military officer and the widow of a martyred soldier. She criticised such rhetoric as misogynistic and divisive, urging citizens to resist communal narratives and uphold democratic values.
Ravikumar, during the BJP’s ‘Kalaburagi Chalo’ protest on 24 May, questioned whether the DC "had come from Pakistan" and accused the district administration of political bias.
