Bengaluru 23 May

A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly filming women passengers without their consent on Bengaluru Metro trains and uploading the videos to Instagram.

The arrest was confirmed by police on Friday following widespread outrage over a now-defunct account called '@metro\_chicks'.

The accused, a resident of Thigalarapalya and an accounts department employee at a private firm in Murugeshpalya, reportedly recorded the videos during his daily commute. The Instagram handle had amassed nearly 6,000 followers before it went offline amid public backlash.

"A case has been registered at Banashankari police station. The accused has no prior criminal history but his actions were clearly perverse," said Lokesh B Jagalasar, DCP (Bengaluru South).

The incident came to light after a concerned X (formerly Twitter) user exposed the Instagram page and tagged senior police officials and BMRCL, demanding immediate action for the violation of women’s privacy.

All content on the account was deleted shortly after the issue gained traction on social media.
