MYSURU, 12 MAY
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has indicated that the Congress government’s two-year anniversary event is likely to be held on 20 May, in the Vijayanagara district. The celebration had been indefinitely postponed due to the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan. With a ceasefire now in place, preparations are resuming.
Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah said Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and KC Venugopal had informed Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi of the postponement. ‘’They will now check with them and let us know. We want to organise the event,’’ he stated.
The Chief Minister claimed his government had “walked the talk” by delivering on its promises. When asked about a possible cabinet reshuffle, he declined to comment, saying the media would be informed in due course.
As part of the celebration, the government plans to distribute one lakh title deeds to eligible beneficiaries living in previously undocumented habitations now recognised as revenue villages.
Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar also confirmed preparations for the 20 May event, noting that all district in-charge ministers have been asked to visit assembly segments and coordinate with officers and party workers. Congress leadership will be invited to attend.
