Bengaluru 11 May

City Police Commissioner B Dayananda has issued strict directives mandating that all trucks transporting construction materials in Bengaluru must cover their loads with tarpaulin sheets. The move comes in response to rising public complaints over dust pollution and road safety hazards.

Speaking at a public interaction session at the National Institute of Unani Medicine in Kottigepalya on Saturday, during Traffic Interaction Day, Dayananda addressed concerns over uncovered trucks ferrying gravel, cement, sand, and jelly across the city.

“Construction activity has surged, and many trucks move without covering their loads. This results in dust spreading across roads and debris like jelly stones falling, causing accidents and disrupting traffic,” said the Commissioner.

Citizens at the session highlighted the health risks posed by airborne dust and the danger of loose construction material on busy roads. Dayananda acknowledged the issue and stressed that going forward, using tarpaulin covers would be mandatory for all such trucks.

He also noted that heavy vehicles are already restricted from entering the city during peak morning and evening hours. The police will now coordinate with the Transport Department to strictly enforce the new rule.

“We will not hesitate to take stringent action against violators,” Dayananda warned.

Also present were Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.N. Anucheth and other senior officials, who assured citizens that enforcement will be stepped up to ensure cleaner and safer roads in the City.
