Bengaluru, 3 May
A former rowdy-sheeter was on Saturday brutally hacked to
death in broad daylight on the City’s outskirts.
The deceased, Santosh alias Karadi, 32, was a resident of
Siddapura in Harohalli. Once listed in the police’s criminal register, Santosh
had reportedly distanced himself from criminal activities after serving a jail
term in connection with a murder case. He had returned to his native village
and taken up farming.
According to police sources, Santosh was riding his two-wheeler to his farmland
around 11.30am on Saturday. As he approached the KSRTC depot in Harohalli, a
vehicle with a gang of assailants on board, rammed into his bike.
When he fell down, they attacked him with sharp weapons,
killing him on the spot. The attackers then fled the scene.
Passers-by alerted the police, who arrived at the scene approximately half an
hour later. They registered a case after preliminary investigations.
The body was sent for autopsy, and efforts are underway
to identify and apprehend the suspects. Police suspect old rivalry to be the
cause behind the murder.
Two more people were killed in a similar manner by assailants in Mangaluru and
Bangaluru this year.
The occurrence of such killings despite the presence of surveillance cameras and police has put the spotlight on Karnataka’s weakening law and order situation.
