Cops crack down on IPL betting and black ticket network

BENGALURU, 22 APRIL
In a major crackdown amid IPL T20 season, Bengaluru City Crime Branch
(CCB) arrested 12 individuals for illegal betting and black-market ticket sales
on Tuesday. The coordinated raids across the City have uncovered a widespread
syndicate operating around IPL matches.
Acting on a tip-off, CCB police raided Cubbon Park where two suspects were
caught selling cricket tickets worth Rs 13,000 for Rs 32,000, and tickets
priced at Rs 1,500 for Rs 12,500. Police seized Rs 1.55 lakh in cash, several
mobile phones, and froze Rs 2.5 lakh in related bank accounts.
Further investigations led to the seizure of betting
chips—also known as reward points—worth over Rs 2 crore, alongside more than 50
illegal IPL tickets.
In Cubbon Park, two individuals were arrested—one with betting chips valued at Rs
10.27 lakh and Rs 40,177 in bank accounts, and another with Rs 13.85 lakh in
linked bank holdings.
In Jeevan Bima Nagar, police found Rs 39,800 in cash, Rs 68
lakh in bank accounts, and Rs 2.43 lakh worth of betting chips. In Yelahanka, a
suspect had Rs 3.69 lakh in accounts and chips worth Rs 7.2 lakh.
The biggest haul came from Basaveshwaranagar, where Rs 71
lakh worth of betting chips were seized. Near the stadium, another suspect was
nabbed with chips valued at Rs 42.91 lakh and Rs 1.49 lakh in cash.
Multiple FIRs have been registered.
