BENGALURU, 11 APRIL
Yelahanka police on Thursday night busted an illegal betting
racket operating during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal
Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC), arresting eight
individuals in the process.
The accused were allegedly running the betting operation
from Udaya Dhaba in Yelahanka. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a
late-night raid and seized laptops and other equipment used for placing online
bets.
The main accused has been identified as Vijay Kumar, who is
affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While five of the arrested
individuals were released on station bail, Vijay Kumar, along with two others,
remains in police custody. Reports suggest he has been attempting to leverage
political connections to secure his release.
Police sources claim that Kumar had been contacting elected
representatives from the BJP, hoping to avoid further legal trouble. However,
no official statement has been made by the party.
When Salar News contacted Yelahanka police station for further details, officials declined to comment and directed queries to the station inspector. Despite multiple attempts, the inspector remained unavailable for comment. Further investigation is underway.
