BENGALURU, 18 APRIL
City police have apprehended one suspect linked to the theft
of nearly 400 kg of processed human hair from a godown in Lakshmipura Cross.
The arrested individual, identified as Yellappa from Gadag, is part of a
five-member gang that broke into the warehouse on 1 March, stealing hair valued
at around Rs 25 lakh.
Following the arrest, police recovered over 300 kg of the
stolen hair, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 18 lakh, on Friday. The
warehouse, owned by Venkataramanappa, stored cleaned hair intended for wig
production, primarily catering to cancer patients and export markets.
The gang reportedly forced open the lock and fled with sacks
of hair in a goods vehicle. Venkataramanappa subsequently filed a complaint,
prompting an investigation involving CCTV footage from the vicinity.
Yellappa was located through this footage and, during questioning, he revealed that he had sold part of the stolen hair to a buyer in Channarayapatna. The hunt continues for the remaining four suspects, believed to have fled to Andhra Pradesh.
