Bengaluru 17 April
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) garbage truck driver Kondayya, 59, succumbed to injuries after he was assaulted by a mob last month in Thanisandra following a road accident he reportedly caused, prompting police to register a case of murder.
On 29 March, a BBMP garbage truck reportedly hit a two-wheeler near Hegdenagar in Thanisandra, under the jurisdiction of the Hennur Traffic Police. The bike was carrying a father and his 10-year-old son, Iman, who tragically died on the spot.
Enraged by the boy’s death, local residents gathered at the scene, set the BBMP truck on fire, and launched a violent attack on the driver. Kondayya was reportedly beaten with sticks, stones, and bare hands by the mob. He sustained serious injuries in the assault.

Police rushed to the spot, dispersed the crowd and rushed Kondayya to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a private facility for further care where he died.

Three individuals identified as Afroz, Akram Khan, and Tabarak have been arrested in connection with the assault and are currently being interrogated. Police say efforts are on to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the mob attack.

Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and allow legal processes to take their course. The BBMP officials have yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
