A day after auto driver was crushed to death by a girder in Bengaluru, contractor and manager of the private firm overseeing construction, and the truck driver have been charged with negligence and rash driving.

The incident occurred while the trailer truck was taking a turn, and the segment slipped and fell directly onto the auto rickshaw. 
The deceased Khasim Saab, a 35-year-old auto rickshaw driver from Sidlaghatta who had been residing in Bengaluru with his family, died on the spot after a viaduct segment being transported for Metro work toppled and crushed his vehicle near Kogilu Cross.

Khasim died on the spot due to severe injuries. Fortunately, passengers who were inside the rickshaw stepped out just in time and escaped unhurt.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has assured that the family of the deceased will be compensated as per protocol.

The Yelahanka traffic police on Thursday said that cases under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, were filed based on the complaint lodged by the victim's father-in-law, Syed Khader.

Meanwhile local residents have expressed anger over the negligence and lack of safety precautions at metro construction sites, demanding stricter oversight and accountability from both contractors and government agencies.
