BENGALURU, 11 APRIL

In a disturbing case of moral policing, a group of Muslim youths harassed and intimidated a young Muslim girl and her non-Muslim male friend after spotting them together on a scooter near a public park in Chandra Layout.
The youths, including a minor, not only hurled verbal abuses at the duo but also filmed the incident, questioning the girl’s character and the boy’s religion.

The incident that took place on 8 April came to light after the video was circulated on social media, showing the girl in a burqa being berated for her choice of company. One of the youths also recorded the confrontation, in the hope of receiving viral validation.

"Don’t you feel ashamed sitting with a man from another faith?" one of the youths is heard saying, while another questions her parents about being aware of her whereabouts.

The boy was similarly targeted for associating with someone outside his religion and threatened with a cricket bat, as seen in the video.

The girl lodged a complaint with the Chandra Layout police, following which the youths identified as Mohammed Mohsin, Mohammed Mansoor, Mohammed Afridi and Waseem Khan were arrested along with the juvenile.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West, S Girish clarified that no physical assault had taken place. One of the accused was known to the girl as they lived in the same BCC Layout area.
