The Bangalore Political Action Committee (B PAC) has published its B.SAFE Constituency Public Place Safety Audit Reports for Vijayanagar and Govindarajanagar Assembly Constituencies. The reports are based on an in-depth assessment of 265 public places across six key categories frequently accessed by women.

According to TK Siri, Programme Lead at B.PAC, this is the third phase of the B.SAFE Constituency initiative, which aims to create safer public spaces for women through a comprehensive approach. The initiative includes safety audits, community awareness programmes, action plans, and sustained advocacy.

The audit, conducted by students from RNS College of Architecture in Bangalore, covered 46 Anganwadi Kendras, 131 bus stops, 58 parks, 10 Primary Health Centres (PHCs), four police stations, and 16 public toilets across both constituencies.

Key findings from the audit include inadequate lighting at bus stops, inaccessible toilets, and insufficient security measures in parks. For instance, in Vijayanagar constituency, 41 out of 52 bus stops required better lighting, while five out of 11 toilets audited were not kept open throughout the day.

The reports were released in the presence of Priya Krishna, MLA of Govindarajanagar, and Srividya Natraj, Vice President from CGI. The B.SAFE Constituency initiative has previously audited Mahadevapura and Malleswaram in 2020, and Hebbal and Dasarahalli in 2022.
