Ali, a resident of Anepalya was a listed rowdy-sheeter at Ashoknagar police station and had 11 criminal cases against him, including attempted murder and assault. His last registered offence was under the NDPS Act in 2022. Ali was also known for his political connections, having campaigned for Congress MLA and BDA Chairman NA Haris during the 2023 Assembly elections. According to sources, his brother is an active Congress worker.
The incident unfolded around 1.15 am when Ali was returning home on a two-wheeler with a friend after a party near a bar on Residency Road. As they approached the football ground near Shantinagar, a car with the assailants rammed into their bike, knocking them down. Seven to eight attackers armed with machetes and iron rods assaulted them. The autopsy report revealed 56 cut injuries on his body while his head was crushed with an iron rod. Ali's friend who sustained serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment.
The brazen murder, despite Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda’s assurances of heightened security measures, has sparked widespread concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division, HT Shekhar, said that the police have launched a probe to identify the assailants. "Special teams have been formed to trace the assailants, with police reviewing CCTV footage from the area. Crime scene investigators are gathering vital clues to aid the probe," he said.
