Bengaluru, 22 FEB
The four men
accused of gangraping a Delhi-based woman were minutes away from fleeing
Bengaluru when they were apprehended, a senior officer involved in the
investigation told Salar News. "Any delay in the probe could have allowed
them to escape," the officer said.
The arrested were identified as Ajit and Bishnoi from West Bengal, and Shibul
from Uttarakhand. The fourth suspect, Shobhan, is currently undergoing
treatment at a hospital for an undisclosed health condition. All four worked at
different hotels in the city.
According to police, the 36-year-old survivor, a mother of four, runs a
catering business with her husband. On Thursday night, while she was waiting to
meet friends near Jyoti Nivas College Junction, the accused engaged her in
conversation in Hindi. Gaining her trust, they invited her to a nearby hotel
terrace under the pretext of offering dinner.
After serving her food, the men allegedly assaulted her multiple times through
the night, ignoring her desperate pleas to let her go. They reportedly
threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone. Around 5 am on
Friday, they released her. Having been robbed of her phone, she contacted
police with the help of her husband, dialling the emergency number 112.
Koramangala police swiftly traced and arrested the suspects before they could
leave the city. The survivor is currently receiving medical care and is
reported to be in stable condition.
