BENGALURU, 21 DEC
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara
Palike (BBMP) has issued a fire safety notice to One8 Commune, a bar co-owned
by cricketer Virat Kohli, for failure to adhere to mandatory fire safety
regulations.
Situated on the sixth floor of
Ratnams Complex on Kasturba Road, the establishment was discovered to be
operating without adequate fire safety measures and lacked a clearance
certificate from the fire department. The notice comes in response to a
complaint from social media activist Venkatesh, who expressed concerns over
fire safety in high-rise restaurants, bars, and pubs across Bengaluru,
referencing incidents such as the Carlton Towers fire that underscored the
risks associated with insufficient safety protocols.
Following the complaint, BBMP
officials from Shantinagar initiated an investigation and identified One8
Commune as one of the violators. This is not the first occasion the venue has
been flagged for fire safety issues; on 9 July, a case was registered against
the bar's manager and four other establishments for similar offences. Sources
have indicated that One8 Commune failed to respond to the previous notice,
aggravating its legal troubles.
The BBMP has now issued a stern
warning, stating that legal action will be taken if the bar does not rectify
the issues within seven days. -SALAR NEWS
