The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art market complex with 42 shops at Cox Town in the City. After the completion of its construction more than a year ago, the facility is finally slated for inauguration by the month-end.
The new complex, a long-awaited project, brings significant relief to both traders and residents of the locality, which did not have a dedicated market in the area. Besides, relocating the roadside vendors to the complex will help ease traffic congestion in the area. With the opening of the new facility, the residents of Cox Town can avoid travelling about 5km to Shivajinagar, which has the nearest major market.
Aisha Khan, a local resident, said,
“The new market will be a blessing for us. It has been an inconvenience
travelling far away markets to buy essentials.”
While most traders are thrilled to
move into the new facility, some have expressed concerns over the allocation of
shops. They fear that political influence may steal the chance of those who
have operated in the area for years getting priority.
Rajeshwari, a vegetable vendor, said, “We’ve been waiting for this market for long. It will be a great help for vendors like me who have been struggling without proper infrastructure. “I hope the allocation will be fair and those who have been here for years get a chance to move in.”
KN Ramesh, a BBMP official, said,
“We are committed to ensure a fair allocation process, giving priority to
long-time traders.” —Salar News
