A team led by Karnataka Lokayukta
Justice BS Patil conducted a surprise raid on the government-run KC General
Hospital in Malleshwaram on Friday, following complaints about rampant
corruption and staff negligence.
Upalokayuktas Justice KN Phaneendra and Justice B Veerappa were also part of
the operation.
The team visited wards, met patients, and inquired about the availability of
services and facilities.
"Patients have complained that D Group workers and nurses demand bribes.
Many doctors are absent from duty. Out of five doctors, only one is present.
Notices will be issued to the absent doctors and other staff," said
Justice Patil.
Justice Patil noted poor hygiene and infrastructure in the hospital after he
found there was no flush and even no water in some of the toilets.
He expressed concern on the unavailability of wheelchairs, old and torn cots
and beds, dust accumulation throughout the hospital, and improper cleaning
routines.
"The system is in disarray, and a case will be filed regarding the
mismanagement. The staff claim they prepare facilities only when a patient
arrives. This is unacceptable," he remarked, instructing the medical
superintendent to take immediate action on this.
The officials also took note that many staff members were on prolonged leave,
and entry logs were not maintained properly.
Upalokayuta Phaneendra said that they will soon submit a report to the
government. -Salar News
