A 22-year-old woman from Assam was found murdered in a service apartment in Indiranagar on Tuesday, police said. Her boyfriend, who is on the run, allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the chest after a spat.

The decomposed body of Maya Gogoi was found in the Royal Livings apartment that she booked with her boyfriend Aarav Anay, hailing from Kerala’s Kannur, on 23 November.

Gogoi, a native of Guwahati, had shifted to Bengaluru a few months ago. She reportedly acquired a job at a private firm in HSR Layout following which she rented a house nearby.

As per the police, Gogoi walked out of the apartment on Tuesday.

"Maya had not been seen since Monday which means the murder might have taken place on Monday and the accused must have spent an entire day in the apartment with the corpse after the murder," said an official. CCTV footage and investigations suggest Aarav stayed in the apartment after the murder, smoking a cigarette near the victim's body.

The police suspect that Aarav might have been contemplating dismembering the body but later abandoned the plan and fled from the apartment after locking the door on Tuesday

It is suspected that Aarav and Maya had been in a troubled relationship and had decided to part ways. They had booked the room to discuss and sort out their dispute. On Monday, they entered into a violent argument following which Aarav stabbed Maya.

"The body was found by a staff member who went to the room to take breakfast orders. As there was no response, the staff opened the room and found the woman dead," added the official.
