Amid celebrations of Deepavali, the police have filed more than 56 cases in connection with selling and storing illegally and bursting crackers beyond permitted time frame in the City.

Speaking to Salar News on Friday, a senior police official from Bengaluru West Division said that the police had been keeping a strict vigil against the use of non-green crackers and people who violate the stipulated time period, between 8 and 10pm, to burst crackers. So far more than 56 cases have been registered across the city, the official said.

"The active task force and patrol teams have detained several vendors and owners of push-carts, sheds, and small shops, who were allegedly involved in selling non-green fire crackers. The action was taken following tip-off from credible sources. Cases have been filed against those involved and investigation is still going on," the official said.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) had directed Bengaluru Police to keep a tab on the vendors selling non-green crackers following which Police Commissioner B Dayananda had deployed various police teams across the City.

"Despite this, attempts have been made to sell banned fire-crackers through online platforms. A police team is monitoring such activities 24/7. Online sale of firecrackers is prohibited and anyone found involved will face legal action," the official added. -Salar News
