Bengaluru, 4 Sept

In a major development for Bengaluru's Namma Metro, 98 per cent of the Pink Line tunnelling work on the City's longest underground metro route, was completed on Wednesday.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced this significant achievement following the successful breakthrough of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Tunga.

The TBM completed a stretch of 936.6 metre between Kadugondanahalli Station and Nagawara Station's South Cut and Cover Shaft.

The tunnelling work on this section began on 3 February. With this breakthrough, BMRCL has now completed 20,582.7 meters of the total 20,992 meters required for the Pink Line's underground section. The remaining 2 per cent of the tunnelling work is expected to be finished within the next two months.

A total of nine TBMs were deployed for the Pink Line project, of which eight have already completed their tasks. The final TBM, Bhadra, is currently working on a 939-meter stretch between KG Halli and Nagawara.

Earlier in July, TBM Tunga set a new record by tunnelling 308 meters between KG Halli and the Nagawara retrieval shaft, surpassing the previous record of 273 meter held by TBM Urja, which had completed tunnelling between Cantonment and Pottery Town in May 2022.

Pink Line is expected to significantly enhance connectivity in Bengaluru, linking key areas such as Tannery road, Pottery town, Cantonment Railway station, Shivajinagara and MG Road and reducing travel time for commuters. -Salar News
