Bengaluru, 2 Sept

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) inaugurated a new passageway at the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station on Monday to address the crowding issue.

The passage connects platform 1 of the Purple Line with platforms 3 and 4 of the Green Line, providing a direct route for passengers transferring between the two lines. This is especially significant as the station serves as a crucial interchange hub for the City's Metro network.

Sumit Bhatnagar, the Operation and Maintenance Director of BMRCL, said, "As the City's Metro usage continues to grow, it's essential to provide multiple access points for passengers. This passage will help alleviate congestion and make it easier for commuters to navigate the station."

Before the opening of the new passage, passengers transferring from the Green Line to Whitefield or vice versa often faced difficulties due to limited escalators and stairways. Many missed their connecting trains due to overcrowding on platforms 1, 3, and 4.

While some commuters have welcomed this change, others have called for more measures to reduce overcrowding at the station. Gagan Hiremath, an IT professional, suggested that increasing the frequency of trains would be more effective in addressing the issue.  Sanjana Kumaran, a lecturer at MES College, Mallershwaram told Salar News, "I miss the connecting train whenever I am in a hurry to board the Green Line Metro. Sometimes the train would have arrived and I miss it due to the rush in the escalators and the staircase. This passage is going to make the change easy for many commuters.”

This is the second passageway to be opened at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Metro Station. A similar passage connecting platform 2 of the Purple Line to platforms 3 and 4 was inaugurated on 20 May. -
