A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport
Corporation (BMTC) Volvo bus lost control on Hebbal flyover on Monday morning,
ploughing through cars and two-wheelers.
The bus, identified as KA57F1797 from
Depot-25, was travelling from Kempegowda International Airport towards HSR
Layout. At 9.25am, the bus veered off course and rear-ended two
motorcycles before crashing into a car and an SUV near Esteem Mall on Airport
Road, according to a CCTV footage.
Although no fatalities were reported, the
riders of the motorcycles sustained injuries and have been hospitalised. The
extent of their injuries was being assessed.
BMTC has launched an investigation to
determine the cause of the accident. Initial speculation suggests two possible
reasons: a potential brake failure or driver negligence.
Sunitha B Jayappa, Public Relations Officer
of BMTC, told Salar News, “We suspect that this was a brake failure. The driver
named Rajakumar is under suspension for negligent driving and we will take
further action based on our findings.” —Salar News
