Tension
prevailed at the Government Mother and Child Hospital in Chintamani after
relatives of a 23-year-old woman refused to accept her body, alleging medical
negligence following a tubectomy surgery.
The
deceased, Narmada from Batlahalli village in Chintamani taluk, was admitted on
23 April. The surgery was carried out the next day by Dr Vani Reddy. According
to the family, her small intestine was allegedly damaged during the operation.
Surgeon Dr
Narayanaswamy later performed a corrective surgery. Narmada was discharged on 7
May, with doctors reportedly assuring her condition was stable.
However,
she developed severe lower back pain on Sunday. She was rushed back to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The family said they were misled about her recovery. Her husband, Obalesh, claimed doctors initially cited infection and later revealed intestinal damage. “They assured us she was fine before discharge,” he alleged.
Hospital Administrative Officer Dr Santosh said the complication was identified and treated promptly through surgery, and that she was discharged after recovery. He added that the exact cause of death would be known after the post-mortem report.
