The Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) in Chikkaballapur received Rs 5,50,08,874 from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for a four-year project on Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

Titled “ADAPT-EB,” the study aims to develop affordable diagnostics and treatments for the rare genetic disorder. EB causes extreme skin fragility, chronic wounds, scarring, and increased skin cancer risk.

The project will focus on low-cost genomic testing, drug repurposing, and integrated care, addressing the lack of a national EB registry and limited access to diagnostics. Researchers aim to reduce diagnostic costs by over 60 per cent, enabling earlier diagnosis and accessible care for patients.
