Over 30,000 degrees awarded at Mysore University convocation

449 doctoral degrees and 213 ranks marked Mysore University’s 106th annual convocation.

At least 30,966 students were awarded degrees at the 106th Annual Convocation of the University of Mysore on Monday, with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot conferring degrees, including 449 PhDs, and honouring 213 rank holders.


N Adithi, MSc Chemistry, stood out by receiving 24 gold medals and eight cash prizes, followed by MA Mansoor Ahammed (Languages) with six gold medals and two cash prizes. Chandrashekhara, son of a daily wage couple from Koppal (MA Kannada), won 13 gold medals and four cash prizes.


Harmain T, daughter of a KSRTC conductor and a teacher couple, secured six gold medals in BSc, while visually impaired Nisarga Gowda (MA Kannada) received one gold medal.


Addressing the convocation, Governor Gehlot emphasised the need for an education system that blends modern knowledge with strong values to preserve national unity, harmony, and cultural integrity.


He highlighted the youth’s role in nation-building, leveraging science, technology, AI, and the digital economy, while addressing climate change and upholding fundamental rights and duties.


Honorary degrees were also conferred on SV Rajendra Singh Babu, T Sham Bhat, and P Jayachandra Raju for their contributions to religion, culture, society, and public service.
