The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced plans to launch a statewide
agitation against the Congress-led Karnataka government, with its core
committee set to finalise the strategy on 5 January.
BJP State
president BY Vijayendra said the protest would target the government’s
“anti-Karnataka” decisions, including the alleged allotment of houses to
illegal migrants from Kerala, the rising influence of drug mafias, and delays
in disbursing pending payments under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme.
Vijayendra
accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of prioritising political survival over the
state’s interests and acting under pressure from the party high command. He
described housing allocations to illegal migrants as unconstitutional and an
affront to the self-respect of Kannadigas.
He also
criticised the government for ignoring sugarcane farmers’ concerns, dismissing
the Chief Minister’s letter to the Prime Minister as its only notable response.
Highlighting law and order issues, Vijayendra pointed to narcotics seizures in
Siddaramaiah’s home district as evidence of administrative failure.
Alleging that funding shortages have prompted a surge in liquor outlets, he said the BJP would press for the immediate release of pending Gruha Lakshmi funds.
